Welcome to Alban Federation, where we offer highly personalised, school-based teacher training in St Albans, Harpenden and across the county.

We have received confirmation of the School Direct places that will be available for September 2017, enabling you to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in: · Art  · Biology  · Business Studies  · Chemistry  · Computer Studies  · DT  · Drama  · Economics  · English  · Geography  · History  · Mathematics  · Media  · MFL  · Music  · Physics  and  Religious Studies. We are also offering Tuition Fee Primary training places. Please note that places are limited in the Primary courses and  some Secondary subjects.


We continue to be open for applications in all subjects aside from PE. Places on the UCAS system are linked to Sandringham School and are listed under the Eastern region. By applying for Alban Federation training you will be eligible to train in all partner schools. We contact all applicants once we receive applications to discuss the available training options.

What are the advantages of working with the Alban Federation?

Rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ (2012), Alban Federation has a depth of experience in teacher training, and has established partnerships with a wide spectrum of excellent schools in the region.

All the secondary schools in St Albans and Harpenden are members of Alban Federation and we also work with a number of associate partners in Brookmans Park, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford and Welwyn Garden City. School s have developed expertise in delivering training and providing the highest level of support to trainees. Int he past two years, all trainees have secured employment as NQTs.

Sandringham School in St Albans is the lead school for the partnership and is where the head office for the Alban Federation is located.

 A reminder that we require you to have obtained GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or be registered for the appropriate equivalency test) at the time of application. Primary applicants will also require GCSE Science.
